Cosmos machines not available on 1 April 2017

Dear Users,

It is necessary to have an electrical power shut-down of the whole DAMTP site in Cambridge, where Cosmos machines are hosted, for essential maintenance work to two transformers.

Therefore all Cosmos machines will not be available starting from 7am on 1 April 2017. According to current predictions they should be back in service around 8pm.

We apologize for the inconvenience cost by the shut-down.

Cosmos2 and cosmic are back online.

System maintenance on 15 March 2017

Dear users,

We have scheduled a maintenance day for Wednesday 15 March 2017 in order to install some software updates. There will be a complete loss of service starting from 8:00 am. We apologize for the caused inconvenience.

Cosmos machines affected by power cut

Dear Users,

Today morning there was a power cut that affected all cosmos machines. While we are recovering from its effects all COSMOS machines remain unavailable. Please accept our apologies for the caused inconvenience.

Cosmos2 and cosmic unavailable

Dear Users,

Unfortunately cosmos2 currently is not working properly. It looks like there are some problems with the filesystem on which the operating system is installed. We are investigating the cause of the failure. We will attempt to bring cosmos2 back to service as fast as possible. Please accept our apologies for the caused inconvenience.

Update

We have confirmed that the current problems with cosmos2 and cosmic have been caused by the failure of the RAID arrays that support operating systems. Currently we are waiting for the replacement parts that should arrive tomorrow morning. Afterwards we will need to restore the operating systems from backups. Until these operations are finished both cosmos2 and cosmic will remain unavailable. Please accept our apologies for the caused inconvenience.

Maintenance on 23 Dec 2016

Dear Users,

Together with our vendor we have identified few faulty parts. We have decided to replace the parts as soon as possible. Therefore we have scheduled a maintenance window starting from noon on 23 December. We apologize for the short notice and the caused inconvenience.
